As promised here are more interior shots of the Marine Building in Vancouver that Smallville uses for the Daily Planet.  I found some more of the elevator including the inside and surprisingly Smallville did an incredible job of duplicating the real one as you'll see under the cut.  The interior is a bit over the top but during this time of the race to build taller and more lavish skyscrapers in North American cities I'm glad that it still survived because sadly so many others have been torn down. For example the Toronto art  deco tower that was the home for the Toronto Daily Star that Joe Shuster worked at and was the inspiration for the Daily Planet is gone except for its artful brass doors.  I stumbled across them one day downtown when I was helping Alexander in his stroller and noticed them and a small plaque.

Interior Lobby of the Marine Building

I can't wait to visit the inside of this building.  In 1930 it was the tallest building in the British Empire and looked over the entrance of Vancouver's harbor.

Thank you again for the DP/Marine building pic spam.

So lovely---those 3D boats that come out of the walls and hold the lighting fixtures---so charming and clever. You know, Disney wishes that it could dream up something for its amusement parks like this that is so witty and Borges-like.

I like that one elevator door with the wild flowers (or wild weeds) on it. And is the other elevator door a corn stalk with a lighting fixture as its corn cob? Clever!

How could anyone not fly in this building? Clark should just float around the lobby and check out the ceiling detail.

Love it! I am seeing this building! It's like those old movie theaters from the 1910 and 1920---just incredible detail and so grounded in the surrounding culture and so fantasically Ornate!

I'm probably sounding like a cliched, broken record, but seriously. This is by far the loveliest building I've ever seen. ♥

I missed being able to go in the lobby when I was there 2 weeks ago! Gah! It operates as an office building and is only open M-F until 6 so I was pretty bummed. I was able to peak through the twirling doors you always see on SV though and go in a side lobby and peak at the elevators. It was pretty incredible:) Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
