Everything and anything under the sun sounds pretty much right.  I'll be posting my thoughts, pictures, and maybe from time to time some "exclusive" trailers for Smallville if they become available again.  If you want to friend me please send me a message first or comment just to say "hi".  I don't bite....well sometimes *grin*

In January 1999, I was lucky enough to see Michael Shanks play Hamlet on stage in Vancouver.  I remember it well because my BF and I had only been dating for a month then and he surprised me with tickets.

"In and over and through this timeless landscape capers a Hamlet who at first seems suitably lost in moody melancholy. Shanks doesn't ignite until the ghost of Hamlet's father urges his son to avenge a murder most foul. From then on it's a treat to watch this handsome and spirited young actor dominate the stage with the tics and twirls of a madness that Hamlet alternately feigns and loses himself within."
Review from the Vancouver Sun

This is why he'll do an awesome job as Carter Hall aka Hawkman in Smallville's Absolute Justice 2 hour event.  Hamlet is one of the hardest and most demanding roles for an actor and as  I watched from the front row and I soon forgot that he worked on SG-1.  He was trained in the theatre first and studied at UBC (Met U *grins*).

Happy New Year Everyone!

Sorry I'm a little late but I wanted to take a moment and say "hi" to my F-list and wish you a year of finding your own "Magic Moments".  LIVE  BIG and take risks my friends and dare to make mistakes.  Psst...stop and learn to appreciate the little things as well.

My New Year's wish was inspired by a link re-tweeted on TWITTER by Cassidy Freeman that I thought deserved to be spread around.

The Magic Moment

" We have to take risks. We can only truly understand the miracle of life when we let the unexpected manifest itself.

Every day – together with the sun – God gives us a moment in which it is possible to change everything that makes us unhappy. Every day we try to pretend that we don’t realize that moment, that it doesn’t exist, that today is just the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow. But if you pay attention, you can discover the magic instant.

It may be hiding at the moment when we put the key in the door in the morning, in the silence right after dinner, in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. This moment exists – a moment when all the strength of the stars passes through us and lets us work miracles.

Happiness is at times a blessing – but usually it’s a conquest. The magic instant helps us to change, drives us forward to seek our dreams. We shall suffer and go through quite a few difficult moments and face many a disappointment – but this is all transitory and inevitable, and eventually we shall feel proud of the marks left behind by the obstacles. In the future we will be able to look back with pride and faith.

Poor are those who are afraid of running risks. Because maybe they are never disappointed, never disillusioned, never suffer like those who have a dream to pursue. But when they look back – for we always look back – they will hear their heart saying: “What did you do with the miracles that God sowed for your days? What did you do with the talent that your Master entrusted to you? You buried it deep in a grave because you were afraid to lose it. So this is your inheritance: the certainty that you have wasted your life.”

Poor are those who hear these words. For then they will believe in miracles, but the magic instants of life will have already passed.

Quality health care is a basic human right.
No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick.

SUPERMAN - For Tomorrow

She makes me human?  No, I can't be that.

But she does make me...a man.

SUPERMAN - FOR TOMORROW presents the Superman as a darker, brooding  hero who is dealing with the disappearance or vanishing of the love of his life.  Clark is devasted and blames himself but they are miraculously reunited in one of the most passionate comic renderings of Superman and Lois I think I've ever scene.   I have always seen some great avi's and arts made from scans from this comic book and Hana [ profile] hanakt had posted a fantastic picspam of all the CLOIS scenes (because there are more then what I've posted) on her LJ but they are in spanish.

After how S8 ended with Lois going POOF when she accidently put on the Legion ring left for Clark to use and Clark giving up on his own humanity after the disasterous events leading up to and including Doomsday I was reminded of the comic FOR TOMORROW and the vanishing.  Under the cut I'll discuss more about FOR TOMORROW and include some spoilery thoughts about S9.  I've also included full size scans of the beautiful passionate scene under the cut.   I was going to re-size them but the artwork is so beautiful I didn't have the heart and I thought others might like to snag them to use for arts.

Thanks to Uadlika for the use of the scans.

Before my other computer died I was using a great media player to watch and screencap videos.  Well I finally found it again and I hope this helps my friend [ profile] chrisluvstommy  out alot because she LOVES sharing and making caps of Tom Welling in Smallville.  [personal profile] cloiser_trish  I hope this helps in your production of your fantastic arts. They are all freeware so have fun everyone!

This is my favorite because it allows you to go forward "frame by frame" and then manually screencap each frame and then it  automatically saves it to a folder for you as a jpg. are going to love watching Tom that closely *grin*

This player is really nice and allows for you to do "burst capping" where you set it the frame rate and walk away and come back later and check out all the screencaps you automatically captured.  You can also use it in manual mode but I found that AVS MEDIA PLAYER was alot easier to capture frame by frame.

Managing All Those Screencaps
To view, edit and manage your screencaps very quickly to get rid of those icky ones I recommend this lightweight but fully functionally program called INFANVIEW
*note  I used AVS and INFANVIEW to do my screencaps for Craig at Kryptonsite for the Canadian trailers of Smallville and both programs allowed me to do this fast and efficiently.

I was going to post a picspam & video of my lovely day at Niagara Falls with my BF and our son but  I'll leave that for another post in order to tell you about my near encounter.  I had just gone into the visitor center at Niagara Falls called Table Rock after having a picnic when a very excited Niagara Falls worker comes up to me and says " should have been outside a few minutes ago."   I was a bit confused because that is exactly where I just came from and she quickly says "Brad Pitt is here with his kids and his parents visiting the Falls. They just left in that big dark SUV."  Well I wasn't expecting to hear that and people generally the place seemed calm but very busy with tourists.  Was she making it up?  If you saw how happy she looked then you would have believed her too.  *grin*  Tonight as I was sorting through our Niagara pics I thought I'd google Brad Pitt in Niagara Falls and oh yeah he was here while Angelina was filming across the border in Albany, N.Y.

Article in the Buffalo News Paper - Pitt and sons: Legends at the Falls with pictures on their webpage.

Under the cut I've put my thoughts and a photo of the Maid in the Mist heading into the falls and they had done earlier.

I saw this on the morning news today! People from all over the world are tuning in to the "Eagle Nest Web Cams"  waiting to see 2 baby eagles hatch.   There are LOTS of Bald Eagles or THUNDERBIRDS as the First Nations (Indians) call them in the Vancouver area and BC for that matter because of the abundance of salmon for them to feast on.  This web cam is located on Hornby Island which is a short ferry ride from Vancouver and the 2 other ones are on Vancouver Island and in Delta just south of Vancouver near where I grew up. I have alot of memories of seeing them when I'd be out for walks at the University or along the beach.  Actually the best time to see them is in the winter because the largest gathering of Bald Eagles in the world occurs just north of Vancouver on the way  to Whistler.  Thousands come to feast on the spawning Salmon near Squamish.

If you have never been near one, to get some perspective on how big they are just spread your arms straight out and then you get an idea of how wide their wing span is from tip to tip.  The background noise you hear are forestry workers taking down trees not far away.

Funny how the words stupidity and ignorant seem to always come to mind when I think of the FOX NEWS CHANNEL  and I usually just roll my eyes when I hear anything that they have to report.  So when I heard that their satire show called Red Eye had poked fun at my country again I shrugged my shoulders until I saw the glaring Fox News story “Sorry for trashing our troops “ on the front page of Canada’s largest city’s newspaper .   Sigh.  Alongside the Fox story is a story of thousands of Canadians lining highway overpasses on the freeway that had a motorcade of 4 dead Canadian soldiers that had died in Kandahar Afghanistan just a few days ago.  Sigh.  For starters I do not expect any of my American friends to be up to date on what Canada is up to in the world but I do expect that a show on a news channel (yes, even a satirical one that  on Fox) would in this age of technology and lightening fast info to have at least used Google.   It was in extremely bad taste  IMO to knock any countries soldiers especially soldiers that are fighting  alongside American soldiers in the most dangerous area of Afghanistan and have been there since 2001.  I realize that they are making apologies but the damage has been done and I feel bad for the military families in times like this.

In the clip, Gutfeld says the Canadian military "wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants." "Isn't this the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country? They have no army!" he asks the panel. Panellist Benson replies: "I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go when you don't want to fight. Go chill in Canada. I guess that'll be their tourism selling point: We're not in the war for a year. So come on by while we nap."

With President Obama re-addressing the mission in Afghanistan and Canada pulling out in 2011, this is not a good time to have Canadians asking themselves the question....”why even bother.”  Under the cut is the youtube video that was posted by an angry Canadian which brought this to the attention to the Canadian media because most Canadian’s don’t even get the channel.  I've also added the CTV News coverage of the Canadian soldiers coming home vis a vis the Canadian response to the Fox show.  Sigh.

*bounces up and down*

Just heard on the morning news that Toronto is going to host the North American stage premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's sequel to to his mega hit the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA called PHANTOM : LOVE NEVER DIES.

*bounces up and down*

I love theatre and even though Phantom is not my #1 (Les Miserables wins for me ), after seeing Webber's reincarnation of the Sound of Music and overall loving the romance and grandness of Phantom I can't help but be excited about his new production.  If you've never seen it live well you've missed having this gigantic chandelier falling from the ceiling for one! Originally he planned to open his sequal simulitanously in London, New York and Shanghai but with the way the economy is I'm not surprised he would test it in Toronto rather then Broadway first.  Also Toronto hosted Phantom for 10 successful years and the current star of Phantom on the London stage right now is from Toronto and after seeing a picture of him I'd never put him behind a mask *grin*

To read more about what the plot will be for the sequal and the links just peak behind the cut.

While we are waiting for a brand new episode of Smallville, INFAMOUS, and the further adventures of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, I thought I share this with my F-list because many of you are fans of Smallville / Superman and Toronto plays a part in the blue tights legacy.  T.O. was the birthplace of the co-creator and original Superman artist Joe Shuster.  He moved to Cleveland as teenager but when he needed inspiration to draw "METROPOLIS" , he drew you guessed it....Toronto.  The Daily Planet with its busy newsroom is iconic in the mythos but if you know your Superman history you'll know that originally the creators called it the DAILY STAR and only changed if for legal reasons years later.   During his youth, Shuster worked for the Toronto Daily Star and drew upon the architecture of the Star's original building and its busy newsroom to bring Clark Kent's and Lois Lane's professional world to life.

Behind the cut I've placed pictures of the original Toronto Daily Star building that Joe Shuster used to create the DAILY PLANET, another picture Joe Shuster with Jerry Siegel,  and a modern picture of Toronto's waterfront.

I think Smallville was really lucky that there was an art deco building in downtown Vancouver that looked alot like the old Toronto Star building that inspired the drawings of the Daily Planet in the comics.

Sadly this building no longer exists and fell to the wrecking ball in the early 1070's.

"I love this country, and I think that we could not have a better friend and ally," Obama told reporters after a private luncheon with the PM on Parliament Hill, expressing an unprecedented depth of emotion for Canada, where Obama has a higher approval rating than any other U.S. politician. from Time Magazine.

He did go on to say that he was biased because his brother-n-law is Canadian and too key staffers were as

February 19th 2009, President Obama made his first foreign visit and spent the day in Ottawa, Canada's capital.  I thought I'd post a picspam for my American friends of their very popular leader mending fences and charming all the politicians up north :)  Behind the cut I'll post my thoughts with the pics.

What we remember about star-crossed romances is not how the lovers met, but the way that the relationships tragically ended. - Lex Luthor in REQUIEM

I'm going to discuss the ending of REQUIEM that has upset a lot of my friends because it tells us a lot about Clark and Lana's relationship, why in the end it could never work, why Lois is destined to be with him as his great love/soul mate, and what Clark needs.

I can't believe that in only 365 days, Vancouver is going to be hosting the next winter games.  Vancouver is part of what we affectionately call "sea to sky country" where you can roller blade on the sea wall in the morning, have lunch on the patio and in 30-45 minutes later be boarding a chair lift to go skiing.  Vancouver is partnering with the incredible dual mountains of Whistler-Blackcomb located 2 hours away for the Alpine events.  These mountains boast the longest ski runs in North America as well as the home of the famous creation of the Fortress of Solitude scene in Season 4 of Smallville when Clark throughs the crystal.  Closer to home just 30 minutes from downtown on Cypress Mountain is where the freestyle and snowboarding will occur.  Just down the road from where I used to live they have built this fantatstic venue for the speedskating!   The Olympic Torch was revealed today for the first time and it seems my BF's collegues have been busy making it :) Am I going back home during the games?  Try and stop me *grin*.

Behind the cut I've placed an official 2010 Video showcasing Vancouver and a picture of me by the official countdown clock.
